We’re lucky to call the Crestview neighborhood home. I mean, a spotted wild pig named Domino is a local icon and the annual Violet Crown Festival draws people from across the city to celebrate our unique culture and history.
If you’re ever in the area, be sure to grab a slice at Little Deli, visit the Wall of Welcome mosaic, enjoy some good coffee or wine at The Violet Crown, and take a stroll through the tree-lined streets to appreciate the mix of old and new homes. “…Austin’s violet crown bathed in the radiance of the morning or arched with twilight’s dome of fretted gold.”
- O. Henry, The Garden of the Gods, 1891

On the rare occasion in Austin, you can glimpse what appears to be a crown of deep violet encircling the city. If you have witnessed this awe-inducing sight, you understand why our church took Violet Crown City Church as its name.
Within those memorable sunrises and sunsets, we see not only the wonder of God’s creation, but also experience being enveloped in something of great depth, warmth, and beauty. The color is symbolic of God’s grandeur, and the imagery of the crown reminds us of Jesus’ self-giving love,

The name has special meaning to us as well because the neighborhood where we’ve been planted has historic ties to the phrase “violet crown.” Our neighbors embrace and are proud of this history, so we wanted not only honor them with our name, but also let them know that we’re here to bless, serve, and celebrate our beloved neighborhood.
